Venable Foundation Annual Report | FY2024

Claudia A. Lewis | Partner Claudia Lewis often reflects on something her grandmother said: “When we look our best, we feel our best, and can then better concentrate on our substantive goals.” These words came to life for Claudia when she began volunteering with Suited for Change. Claudia has witnessed how the professional clothes and training Suited for Change provides women can empower them. She is especially inspired by how the organization outfits women with the tools and confidence they need to rebuild their lives and gain control of their futures. Suited for Change provides professional attire, coaching, and essential skills training to women in need in Washington, DC. These women are referred to Suited for Change by partner organizations, including workforce development programs, transitional housing programs and halfway houses, and domestic violence shelters. With support from the Venable Foundation, Suited for Change continues to equip its clients with the self-assurance and skills needed to succeed in both their professional and personal lives. Adam G. Possidente | Partner In one of Adam Possidente’s first pro bono cases with the City Bar Justice Center, he represented a man fleeing political persecution in Burkina Faso. Adam often reflects on the high stakes of his pro bono asylum cases with City Bar, noting them as his “most stressful and fulfilling” work as an attorney, and that “nothing beats the feeling of coming back to [the clients] when you’ve won.” Adam’s dedication to City Bar began when he was a first-year associate at Venable, and it has grown as he’s represented those seeking asylum because of political dissidence, LGBTQ status, and other forms of persecution. City Bar mobilizes various legal institutions to provide essential pro bono legal services to underserved communities in New York. Through advocacy, education, and policy reform, they ensure the rights of New Yorkers facing socioeconomic barriers are protected. The Venable Foundation is a proud partner of City Bar and has supported its vital mission through grants as well as pro bono work.
