Erin McCloskey Maus | Partner At one point during Erin Maus’s nearly 25 years doing pro bono work for the Center for Disability and Elder Law (CDEL), she helped a community college student who was facing expulsion bring litigation against his school for not following his special needs education plan or providing him with support services. Erin is particularly proud of that case and of the strong ties she’s helped build between Venable’s Chicago office and CDEL. Erin is still in touch with the community college student, who graduated and now has a job he loves. CDEL provides free legal services and workshops to low-income seniors and people with disabilities in the greater Chicago area. CDEL also addresses at-risk clients in workshops, with the goal of preventing legal issues before they happen. Through these workshops and legal assistance, CDEL has been expanding access to justice to those marginalized by poverty, age, and disability for over 40 years. Daniel S. Silverman | Partner A decade ago, Darian Eastridge and her fiancée were on their way to pick up Darian’s engagement ring when a car accident left her paralyzed. Her father, Venable partner Dan Silverman, cites Triumph’s outreach and support groups as instrumental to Darian’s recovery and readjustment process. He proudly calls Darian “one of Triumph’s success stories.” Darian and the entire Silverman family remain closely involved in support groups and fundraising efforts for Triumph’s important work. The Triumph Foundation aids those facing spinal cord injury or disorder through their resources and lifelong support network. As the go-to organization in Southern California for people living with mobility impairments, the Triumph Foundation provides community as well as financial assistance and adaptive equipment to those who need it.
