Venable Foundation Annual Report | FY2024
Each year, the Venable Foundation strives to address critical needs that resonate with Venable employees and their communities. In past years, the Foundation has awarded larger, one-time Impact Grants to organizations that are fulfilling a vital mission in each of the firm’s major metropolitan regions. This year, the Foundation was excited to make a new type of commitment, with a single extended grant that advances lifesaving brain tumor research that can benefit patients across the globe. In 2024, the Foundation announced a $500,000 multi-year grant creating the Venable Fund for Neurosurgery Research at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. The grant will award $100,000 annually to the Johns Hopkins Hunterian Brain Tumor Laboratory through 2028, supporting the lab’s vital brain tumor research and treatment program. “We are proud to support the important work led by Johns Hopkins’ neurosurgeons and neuroscientists,” said Bob Waldman, president of the Foundation. “Their ongoing commitment to and research in support of this cause have made an indelible mark on impacted families, friends, and communities. We hope that this fund will contribute to further learning and the development of effective treatments.” Support from the Venable Fund for Neurosurgery Research will enable the hundreds of Hopkins researchers at this lab to advance groundbreaking therapies. These researchers are exploring innovations like advanced drug delivery methods and emerging technologies like focused ultrasound. “The philanthropy keeps everything moving forward,” said Betty Tyler, a professor of neurological surgery who leads research at the lab. “This gift will help our current projects and push forward the other projects that look promising.” By investing in the future of brain tumor research, the Venable Foundation is fostering discoveries that have the potential to serve all of its communities – and those far beyond. The Foundation looks forward to seeing its support drive meaningful progress in treatments and outcomes 2024 Impact Grant Venable Fund for Neurosurgery Research at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine
