Venable Foundation Annual Report | FY2023
educational opportunities, domestic violence, or homelessness. Many issues are linked, and to honor the wishes of our founders, the Foundation always attempts to see the whole community rather than just a portion of it. Looking back on our 40th year, we see that there is much we have accomplished. While maintaining our level of grantmaking to key community institutions of all sizes, we hosted an anniversary reception that highlighted one of our largest grant contributions ever. Later in this report, you will learn more about the $250,000 grant awarded to Kids In Need of Defense (KIND) for its client social services. This nonprofit gets to the heart of the Venable Foundation’s mission—to heal the wounds from more than one type of adversity and address the needs of the whole person. KIND is also a longtime pro bono partner of the firm. The 40th anniversary also saw the passing of the board leadership baton, and we all thank our previous president, Lindsay Meyer, for her tireless dedication to the Foundation’s work. As I move into the president’s role after years of involvement as vice president, I hope to build on Lindsay’s legacy and continue our important work. My thanks to the firm’s partners, who had the foresight to create such a unique entity as the Venable Foundation, and to the current partnership at Venable, whose contributions allow us to have a wide impact across our office locations. Looking ahead, we will continue to identify ways to make a meaningful impact in the communities that we, as a firm, call home. Robert L. Waldman President, Venable Foundation
