Venable Foundation Annual Report - FY2020

From March 2020 through January 2021, we rescued and delivered 124.7 million pounds of food, more than double the amount over the same period the year before (62.1 million pounds). The growth over such a short period of time has been astronomical – and our projections of food need in New York City continue to outpace all expectations. We are grateful to the Venable Foundation for standing with us during this crisis, and for making an increased commitment this year to help keep our trucks full of nutritious food for our neighbors.” - Jilly Stephens CEO City Harvest New York, NY The Venable Foundation expanded upon its practice of providing Impact Grants which are at amounts above and beyond typical grant awards, intended to create a meaningful impact at that particular organization. As the COVID-19 pandemic began to ravage the country, the Foundation examined its effects on our communities and how Impact Grantmaking might make a difference. The long lines at local food banks and families now facing food insecurity due to a change in their employment status led us to focus the 2020 Impact Grants on food insecurity and access. Additionally, Venable forged partnerships with local community foundations across the country, contributing to their COVID-19 relief funds that pooled contributions from other donors to maximize reach and distribution to organizations addressing homelessness, eviction prevention, and other areas feeling the effects of the pandemic. In total, $1 million was distributed in May 2020 to meet these emergency needs.
